Albert Watson in Amsterdam
Kahmann Gallery in Amsterdam will be packed with photography lovers next Thursday, as on that day the exhibition I observe with work of grandmaster Albert Watson opens. I observe shows and sells 30 selected black and white photos of Watson (1942), like the one of a young Christy Turlington (then still smoking, now serious yogi) and the brilliant Monkey with Masks.
Albert Watson is known by his fashion, celebrity and art photography. Over the past 35 years he has shot over 200 Vogue covers and numerous famous photos taken from icons like Kate, Naomi, Alfred Hitchcock, David Bowie, Jack Nicholson and not to be forgotten: Mick Jagger, caught on the leopard face photo. Photo District News named Watson one of the 20 most influential photographers of all time, along with Richard Avedon and Irving Penn, among others.
The work of Albert Watson, who lives and works in New York, shows a broad variety of styles and objects, and cannot be defined under a specific signature what makes it even more interesting. As he explains: “I observe, and simply capture what I see.” No matter if it’s fashion, nature or a celebrity, Watson’s talent is a perfect timing to shoot the subject of his interest.
Albert Watson will personally attend the opening of I observe!
